Undo Last Move

Made a blunder? No problem! Take back your last move in casual games and learn from your mistakes without penalty. Perfect for practice and learning.

What is Undo Move?

The Undo Move feature allows you to take back your last move in casual chess games. This is perfect for learning situations where you want to explore different variations, correct mistakes, or simply experiment with different strategies without the pressure of permanent decisions.

๐ŸŽฏ Learn Without Fear

Making mistakes is part of learning chess. The Undo feature lets you experiment freely, try bold moves, and learn from errors in a stress-free environment.

How It Works

1

Click Undo Button

During your game, you’ll see a yellow “Undo Last Move” button below the chess board (only appears when moves exist).

2

Confirm Action

A confirmation dialog appears to prevent accidental undos. Click “Yes” to proceed or “No” to keep the move.

3

Move Reversed

The last move is taken back instantly. The board position and game state are restored to before that move.

4

Try Again

Make a different move and explore alternative strategies. Learn by experimentation!

Best Practices

โœ“

Use for Learning: Undo is a powerful learning tool. Use it to explore “what if” scenarios and understand position better.

โœ“

Think First: Don’t rely on undo as a crutch. Try to think through moves before playing them.

โœ“

Casual Only: Remember that competitive games don’t allow undos. Practice making careful decisions.

โœ“

Compare Variations: After undoing, try different moves to see which works best in the position.

โœ“

Build Confidence: Use undo to build confidence in your move selection without fear of permanent mistakes.

Learning from Your Mistakes

The Undo feature isn’t just about fixing errorsโ€”it’s about understanding them. Here’s how to maximize your learning:

1. Identify the Error

Before undoing, understand what made the move bad. Was it a tactical oversight, positional mistake, or calculation error?

2. Find Alternatives

Look for better moves. What should you have played instead? Consider multiple candidate moves.

3. Remember the Pattern

Internalize the correct pattern so you don’t make the same mistake in future games.

โš ๏ธ Important Limitations

  • โ€ข Undo is not available in competitive/rated games to ensure fair play
  • โ€ข Only the last move can be undone at a time
  • โ€ข Cannot undo after the game has ended (checkmate, stalemate, resignation)
  • โ€ข Both players must agree to undo in two-player casual games (coming soon)
